Mr & Mrs M’s Pilates Studio
Mr. M found Keops Interlock tailor made cabins to be an enormous saving over brick built and found that Keops had the technical expertise for a demanding project. Mr. & Mrs. M required a garden house to be used as a Pilates Studio for twelve participants at a time.
The development needed planning permission and so an architect design for a brick building had been submitted and approved.
The site was known to be very poor ground and very wet from natural springs. On costing the building and in particular the foundations in view of the soil conditions, Mr. & Mrs. M were disappointed by the tremendous expense involved.
They approached Keops Interlock as an alternative route using a tailor made log cabin. We designed a fabulous cabin 10m x 8m (80 sq. m) in 55mm log with mainly open plan exercise room but incorporating an entrance lobby for hanging coats, a separate store room and toilet and a kitchen area. The front elevation was well glazed to let in as much light as possible and take advantage of views across the garden. It was a specific requirement to maintain good areas of wall space for certain exercise activities. The cabin was to have insulated floor and roof and double glazing.
Mr. & Mrs. M travelled from Sussex to visit the Keops show cabin in Evesham, Worcestershire.
They were impressed by our quality and the services we offered and placed the order with us. In doing so we believe they saved some £25,000 off the next best quote for a brick built unit.
Throughout the project Keops were able to assist in technical matters and structural calculations to satisfy the changes to planning approval and building control.
The foundations were formed using a screw pile technique. Essentially steel tubes were screwed 3 metres deep into the ground in a 2.5m grid pattern. This service was provided by GTL Partnership who liaised closely with us.
Keops built a substantial pressure treated decking platform on top of the piled network.
The cabin was then constructed on top of the decking.
The work on site took three days.
Mr. & Mrs. M drafted in decorators with spraying facilities for the subsequent wood treatments.
