Keops designed and built an 11.5 x 14 metre long building suitable for a school baby and toddler facility. The log cabin was subjected to building regulations approval for a commercial building and therefore included the Keops system of roof and floor insulation, the log cabin cavity wall system with rigid ureathane insulation cavity fill and Keops door and window system in UPVC golden oak frames with 24mm double glazed Pilkington Low E toughened glass.
Madresfield Early Years Centre in Worcestershire is a private school set in a 200 acre farm with beautifully converted farm buildings providing immense and fabulous accommodation for some 170 children. The School has had outstanding OFSTED reports and its success has been noted in Whitehall and it has in part been opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The appointed Architect came to Keops Interlock in search of a tailor made log cabin for a proposed new, baby and toddler unit.
The design was for a log cabin 11.5m wide x 14m long (160 sq.m) specifically sized to locate within a space between existing buildings.
Mrs. Bennett the Proprietress had a very positive vision for the internal layout and important features to be included.
Briefly, the central area was to be the main cot room for 11 cots and the main corridors would allow an orbital flow around the central feature, leading to two large adjacent halls, one for babies, one for toddlers. The Halls needed provision for linking into one for other functions. It was also important that the halls should have a wide expanse of glazing to take advantage of the glorious views to the Malvern Hills beyond, so that the children could watch the activities of the working farm and the movement of livestock.
The corridors serviced some 12 other rooms including reception, cloakroom, office, quiet room, dining area, kitchen, utility room, staff room, toddler changing, toddler stores, baby changing, baby store and disabled toilet.
Above the central area, two enormous lofts were created for storage of all the toys and equipment.
The log cabin was delivered in component form some 8 weeks from order on exactly the day promised and construction work on site was substantially complete within 10 days also as promised.

Four large Velux units were added to provide additional light over the halls and dining area.
Several rooms had stable doors and in general were designed for disabled access width with low profile sills for push chairs.
